If you want to stay in Canada longer as a student, you must apply to renew, extend, or change the conditions of your study permit.
You should apply for renewal at least 30 days before the expiration of your current study permit.
If you submit a renewal application or apply to change your status before your current permit expires, you are considered to have “Implied Status”.
Implied Status allows you to retain your original status including privileges and conditions until a decision is made on your application. This means you'll be able to study or work in Canada so far as you remain in Canada.
If your study permit extension is approved, you can apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
