Temporary immigration to Canada is a significant component of Canadian immigration, and all foreign nationals must enter Canada with a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Whether you are an international student looking to study, a temporary foreign worker looking for work or a tourist visiting Canada, a friend, family member, or to explore business opportunities , you must obtain a temporary resident authorization (TRV or eTA).

You will need TRV to travel to Canada if you are from a visa-required country. In contrast, if you are from a visa-exempt country, you will require an eTA to fly to or transit through Canada.

Temporary residents must comply with any conditions imposed by Canadian immigration regulations.

There are general conditions that are automatically imposed on all TRVs issued such as the requirement to leave by the end of the authorized period of stay and not to work or study without the appropriate permit.

Visitors in Canada can now convert their Visas to Work Permits if they have a contract backed by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from a Canadian employer.

The visitor to work permit policy was extended until February 2025.
